Self-Care Summer

Summer is here!

Okay, maybe not officially. But, we are absolutely feeling the heat and the sunshine which means summer is rapidly approaching. Especially here in South Florida, which we all know will get oppressively hot soon. But, in the meantime, just imagine a beautifully clear summer day. This summer feels especially interesting because lots of people are trying to either get back to their “normal” summertime routines, or they are trying to make up for lost time from the last couple of years and getting even more adventurous with their travels around the world. More on travel later, stay tuned!

Summer can be complicated for sensitive, introverted women…

As a highly sensitive, introverted woman, you may be dealing with competing feelings within yourself. On one hand, heck yes! Let’s do things! Let’s explore. FINALLY, let’s get out of the freaking house and take our amazing remote jobs (or that vacation you’ve been saving up) and have an adventure! But, on the other hand, that sounds absolutely exhausting. Getting out and about, and doing what you need to do in order to have these experiences can seem like it’s honesty just not worth it. Plus, all of the peopling involved.

You do you, Boo.

So, what is a highly sensitive introverted woman in the Summer of 2022 supposed to do? Hint: I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it until you all hear me…whatever the heck you want! Exactly how you want and need to do it. #selfcare does not look the same for every one of us. That’s why it starts with the word, “self”! What I need to feel comfortable and content in the world is not going to be the same as what you need to feel comfortable and content in the world.

This Summer, let’s get into it.

An HSP Coach answers the question of "how to deal with light sensitivity" as part of her coaching for sensitive women in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Read on!Last month, I dedicated my writing to HSPs, or highly sensitive people. I focused on some of the unique experiences and needs we have. This month, and honestly, most of the Summer, I’m going to spend some time diving deeper into the experiences and considerations around travel, light sensitivity, moving, new jobs, gearing up for the back-to-school season, and so much more. Let’s face it. As a woman who moves through the world with more intentionality and thoughtfulness than most, your ideal self-care summer may look different than that of those around you.

Summer Fun and Festivities

Perhaps, you’ll visit the pool just as often, but not at peak times! Your visits to the beach will still be frequent, especially for my Florida, South Carolina, California, and Texas babes! (Hey, y’all!) But, you may take shorter trips. You may set up camp early in your preferred spot and pack all of the snacks and drinks you need to be comfortable. Getting through the day in a peaceful, introvert-friendly way is key!

Family vacations and reunions can absolutely still bring you joy. They can also still provide you with the break you need to build in so you can recharge your social battery that gets more quickly depleted than the rest of your family.

Perhaps, back-to-school prep starts for you and your family now! That way, you don’t have to flock to the store on the tax-free weekend with everyone else in town. You’ve already got the basic supplies your kiddos need. It doesn’t change THAT much from year-to-year, right?
